Today, we sat down with Tales of Mike to discuss their start in music, stories from the studio, and much more! Be sure to check out the music of Tales of Mike below after the interview on Spotify!
Interview:
How did you get your start in music?
I got into metal music after I left Orphange with my brother. That was in 1983 and a cousin of mine was a Kiss and Accept fan. That’s how it started. He had the LP “Kiss Alive I” and “Accept Restless and Wild” and I was overwhelmed. At the same time, a clique formed at our school and we often met after school to listen to music. It was a great
bond back then because we looked forward to every new album.
What type of music did you listen to while growing up?
My childhood wasn’t exactly nice and I can’t really remember any particular music. I know that 70s German hits were on the radio. I only know that because I remember the radio that looked like a white head. I had a formative experience when I heard the song I Love Rock’n Roll by Joan Jett on the radio in the children’s home. I immediately asked someone what kind of instrument it was. I was told an electric guitar. That aggressiveness in the sound made me happy.hahaha
What are fun stories you can share while you’re in the studio recording music?
Not much funny has happened during the recordings. Sometimes it’s more of a situational comedy when I listen to the songs with my daughter Shannon, who writes the lyrics for Tales of Mike, and we talk about the lyrics. Those are magical moments
because she often thinks exactly like me. Otherwise, I always say Tales of Mike don’t make happy music. So there’s not really much to laugh about 😉
Which of your latest songs or albums can you share with us?
The current release is the Tales of Mike- Landscape of Sorrow EP. It is dedicated to my late brother Markus, who sadly died of bone cancer in 2010 at the age of 35. The EP is about his illness and our time together in a Catholic orphanage and the violence of a Franciscan nun.
The first single “Human Masquerade” from the upcoming album will be released on
October 4th. The first Tales of Mike album will be released in 2025. Get ready.
