Today, we sat down with Kimon and Dominik from Stagewar to discuss their start in music, stories in recording studio, and much more. Be sure to check out the music of Stagewar below after the interview.
Interview:
How did you get your start in music?
Kimon: Dominik and I met in the local school band and we shared the same musical interests. So we started as a band in 2003 when we were round about 16-18 years old.
And of course we did some other projects before. We were just kids who wanted to make better music than all that popular music heard by our classmates that time.
We covered songs by Metallica, Judas Priest etc. and then we wanted quickly realize our own ideas. So we asked other friends if we wanted to rehearse together. We formed our own band pretty quickly.
What type of music did you listen to while growing up?
Kimon: I started with classical music and got goozebombs when I heard the first time electric guitars.
Dominik: The first musical impressions I got came from my parents. Bands like AC/CD, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Black Sabbath etc. have had a strong influence on me and still do to this day. I´m very interested in any kind of music if it´s real.
What are fun stories you can share while you’re in the studio recording music?
One of the best stories was in 2008 when we recorded a song in a studio after a very hard drinking night and we had no place to sleep. So we slept on the street in front of the studio. Dominik was woken up by a dog who stole a croissant he was sitting on.
We had a really bad hangover and I had to vomit several times during my guitarsolo recordings… but the solo sounds still great.
What is your latest song or album you can share with us?
We released an EP in October 2023. It´s called “Interlude to self-destruction“. We also released a few music videos for this EP, all of which you can find on YouTube. Be sure to watch the video for dead again. The name says it all. We don´t want to give too much away, but not everyone makes it home alive.
