Today, we sat down with Vocals and Bassist from Radio Aftermath Rob Burns to talk about type of music he listened to growing up, advice for musicians and much more! Be sure to check out Radio Aftermath music below on Spotify after the interview!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Rob (Burns, Bass and Vocals): Things I watch, things I hear, stuff around me. I try not to get involved with the lyrical side so much, so I take less cues from events, so much as I do sounds.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Rob: The same type as now! Nirvana changed my life; they were my first musical love and the reason I picked up a guitar to begin with!
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Rob: Probably Kurt Cobain, when everyone else was obsessing over MCR and the like I was in a full 90’s grunge phase. I seemed to be about 10 years behind everyone else for a while…
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
Rob: Regretting that I never bothered to learn how to play guitar… I work in IT for a day job, so I’d be still doing that without the creative outlet.
What advice do you have for your fans out there that want to create
music?
Rob: Do it! Start by learning other band’s songs and figuring out what you like about them, then shamelessly stealing their riffs. Somewhere along the way you’ll find that you’ve started to develop your own style.
