Interview With Prime

Today, we sit down with Lee Heir of the popular UK band Prime. We discuss music inspiration, heroes and much more! Be sure to check out their music below after the interview!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

LH: I’m inspired by everything I see and do, so it’s never hard to find inspiration for a song. I must say a recurring theme in our music is to get out into the wider world and beat the odds, so that must’ve been because I come from an ex mining town in Nottinghamshire where there is increasingly less to do the more the years pass by. And I know it’s pretty hard to get out there at the moment with what’s happening in the world, but a friend of mine Ashley Carr recently released a song called ‘These Four Walls’ about Covid19 so there’s clearly inspiration to be found! I haven’t written a thing about that subject to be honest. I’ve had enough personal things going on to contend with!

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

LH: Indie music like Oasis, Blur and Suede was huge to me growing up, and I also loved listening to stuff like Michael Jackson, Prince and Bob Marley.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

LH: I’d say that David Bowie was a huge inspiration just for his sheer lust for life and the way he stood up for the underdog and the more underground musical genres, and before that I was big into a comic book artist called Norman Breyfogle. His Batman artwork was phenomenal.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

LH: I recently finished a screenplay, so I’d be doing a lot more of that if I wasn’t focussed on music.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

LH: Just go for it, enjoy yourself and be creative. But also be aware that you have to be as serious as the people playing with you, or vice versa. Nothing beats creating a good song, enjoy it!

Prime (UK Band)‘s single ‘Jeff Took A Trip’, the East Midlands group’s first release since their digipak CD ‘Art/Facts’ earlier this year, of which lead track ‘To Be Or Not To Be’ scored 100,000 streams on Spotify.

‘Jeff Took A Trip’ is the new single by Prime (UK Band) out now. A story of the mysterious and handsome title character taking a trip to a Northern seaside town and “what was in his pocket” will “make him some money”. An intoxicating blend of bluesy indie rock, electronic touches and edgy, soulful vocals.

What radio and critics previously said about Prime (UK Band):

And to kick off… Great track from Prime… Look forward to hearing more from them in the future – Christian Carlisle, BBC Radio Sheffield

“Very good indeed… Brilliant track. Such a gritty, great rock song. Explosive vocal styles and the powerful indie rock” – Dean Jackson, BBC Introducing

“Can I just say, wow… (a) kick up the arse… kicking off strong with some loud guitar and vocals, you’re hooked… raw and exciting. If you mixed the catchiness of (previous Prime track) ‘IOU’ with the melody and vocal power of ‘Bye Bye’ then you’d have pretty much the perfect track.” – John Briscombe – RGM Online
