What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Hi folks, first of all I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Marco Plesnicar, bass player of Monkey Intrusion.
Well, that’s a pretty difficult question to answer since we all write music and so it’s different for each one of us. On average, surroundings, scenes that you witness, books or movies often trigger the inspiration.. sometimes though could simply be the weird sound of a chord and then you come up with that amazing progression!
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Wow, a variety of music, ranging from jazz to punk and alas, italian mainstream from the radio. Probably the most influential were Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Police and Dire Straits.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Well, hero is pretty much a strong word.. but in my teens I was absolutely fascinated by Jim Morrison!
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
I’ve worked for many years in television as a cameraman and editing.. so I guess that would be my path. But I have to say that I was never tempted to abandon music for a more comfortable job, as hard as it was at times having a day job and gigging at night. There never was a real plan B!
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Man.. it’s very tricky to give advice in this field! I’d say be open minded. When you have that progression follow it to its bitter end, maybe it will be crap.. often it will be crap! But you learn a lot from that. Then confront other musicians, listen carefully to criticism and keep in mind that a masterpiece seldom pops off, but you can craft good songs.. sometimes the work you put to do it is as satisfying as that incredible one that came out without an effort!
