Interview with Maverick

We sat down with Eddie, Fil, and Elliott from Maverick to talk their inspiration to write music, type of music they listened to growing up, and much more!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

Yes, our surroundings definitely play a big part in our work. As the heart speaks of what it’s full of, what we live, go through and reflect upon transpires into our music. Our inspirations vary a lot actually. From personal and made up stories to goofy and pure nonsense, we enjoy letting creativity flow on its own. As long as we like the result, and it expresses what we do as a whole.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

All sorts. Needless to say, we all grew up in households where a lot of music was played, all the time. With parents blasting jazz, rock, reggae, classical…, artists such as Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, The Beatles and other classics from the very bests. Music has been an active part of our education and childhood. Although our true love for it only came later in our lives, seeds had already been planted.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Of course. Landing on specific figures is not an easy task, as there are plenty whom we look up to. However, for the sake of argument, the names are Bob Marley (Eddie), Billy Joe Armstrong (Fil) and Freddie Mercury (Elliot). Their work goes beyond music, and that is very inspiring to us.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I don’t believe there’s anything out there for us that we’d be doing other than that. If there would be a possibility of living in a world with no notion of music whatsoever, for sure we’d be doing something related to art in some kind of way. Or sports… gotta burn all that energy 😉

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Get intune with your guts. Go within. Attune with your heart and follow what feels right. Creativity will flow in an easier way. Know what you want, make sure the reasons behind are honest. ‘‘Staying the course, be true to the core. No regrets, wishing you’d done more.’’ (Shameless plug, from our song Epitaph ;p). And don’t waste time with people wo are not on the same page. Respect and honesty go a long way.
