Today, we sat down with Lost Dogs of Ultimo to discuss their inspiration to write music, heroes, and much more. Be sure to check out the music of Lost Dogs of Ultimo below on Spotify after the interview.
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Hi I have always been passionate about social and environmental issues growing up in Manchester in dark and grim times and the whole Punk explosion giving a voice to artists that wouldn’t usually get a voice. I really found that inspiring and encouraging to start writing lyrics and learning an instrument and this gave me a voice to send out my own message
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Yeah I considered myself lucky to hear some great bands in the UK like The Clash The Buzzcocks and MC5 so it was really Guitar orientated bands with a strong message in their songs
Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?
I cant go past Joe Strummer and Patti Smith but there have been other people not necessarily musicians I resonate to people with a voice and commitment to social justice and fairness Im still finding heroes
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
I would like to be a teacher. I think you need life skills to teach and I’ve gathered them over the years .The teachers I had where pretty angry and hostile I can see now they lost their passion probably worn down by a broken system
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Read Learn Share. I think if your a musician its not just for a year or two its a journey over a long period of time so just enjoy We are communicators through song and dance
