Today, I sat down with Alex, Miriam, and JC of Le Bone to discuss their inspiration to write music, heroes, and much more! Be sure to check out the music of Le Bone on Spotify below after the interview!

This is an interview with Lebone, hosted by myself, JC.

JC

First question of the interview. I think this is going to be more forAlex. What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

JC

That’s the end of the question.

Alex

Wow, it’s escapism, isn’t it? Travel off to magical runs, so it is kind of breaking out, man. Breaking out. Music man, I don’t know.

JC

Just anything and everything?

Alex

It is life, man. That’s the way I deal with it.

JC

Miriam, when you write music… What’s your inspiration?

Miriam

So it’ll be like little snippets of things that I’ve read normally, or things that I’ve watched on the telly and my little life things, stories in my head. You’re a sponge, aren’t you? Yeah.

Alex

You’re a sponge when you write stuff.

Miriam

You just suck it all up. Or mainly always. If I can’t write anything that’s actually going on myself, it’ll be like I’ve had a conversation with someone else where they’re feeling something or going through something. And then I’ll just put pretend on them. It’s just conversations, stories.

JC

Next question, question two. Alex. What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Alex

As ittle kids? ….Turtle soundtrack, Beatles. Techno tracks, Madonna. What was that called? Ready, steady, go?. Was it? …Like loads of sixties

 

musicians, Dave Clark, Five, stuff like that. That was like when I was a young, young little lad. And Duran Duran, can’t forget Duran. And then it goes on.

JC

Into teenage years?

Alex

Into Yeah Nirvana etc, Sub Pop too.

Alex

Pantera. Captain Beefheart, like that, and then I’ll start going into the stranger side of things. Is that good enough? Enough?

JC

Mim, what type of music did you listen to growing up?

Miriam

My mum was all like seventies rock. Dad’s stuff, but my stuff was the Carol Kings and the Joni Mitchells. So this late sixties early seventies hippies.

Piano. Women doing their folk thing really.

JC

Cool, next question, question three. Alex, is there someone you looked up to as a hero?

Alex

Bowie, Dio, kate bush? …You can’t put those? Is It all the musical? Who’s it people? I don’t know if there’s a hero. Whats a hero?

JC

I’m guessing it’s musical hero.

Alex

oh my god!

JC

An idol? A musical idol maybe?

Alex

…. I’m just trying to think.

JC

It’s a very generic question.

Alex

I think it’s okay to say no. I had no heroes.

Miriam

Hero. Is it sorry? Was the question growing up or now?

Miriam

…Alex, I think Batman is your hero?…. Alex. Batman. Batman. Like fictional

heroes?

 

JC

The ultimate hero? Mim, is there someone you looked up to as a hero or heroine?

Miriam

Was it Batman? I think there was somebody that I really loved and I used to like. Blork. I’d love to be like her as an early teenager, like twelve. I just thought she was so interesting and original that she was in my head. The closest thing to a modern day Kate Bush. Modern day inspiration, unique person. Definitely Kate Bush and Bjork. I think they’re on the same level for me.

Miriam

You were having a Kate Bush too? Forgot how much she meant to me…

Alex

She was quite important.

Miriam

She was so ‘proggy’ and ‘wonderful’? And interesting. There hadn’t really been anyone since Kate Bush. I don’t think there was that kind of.

Miriam

Doing that thing. The only person sort of who was for me was a rip off of Kate Bush, things like Tori Amos and things they weren’t even close. And then Bjork came out, and it was like oh god

Alex

Bjork though. It definitely was inspired. Took it to another, level…

Miriam

Alpine level

Alex

And the cold stuff, the coldvolcanoes. Coldvolcanoes. Coldvolcanoes.

JC

Next question, question four, Alex: If you weren’t a musician, what would you be today?

Alex

Artist painting pictures.

JC

Cool, thank you for that. Miriam, same question: if you weren’t a musician, what would you be today?

Miriam

Ninja. A ninja.

JC

Is that full-time or part-time ninja?

 

Miriam

Probably be part-time because I would have to have a cover, somebody who’s very exotic and sophisticated, and I’d have to move to Paris. So I could only do it part time.

JC

What would be with the part time?

Miriam

I think I wouldnt mind working in a cafe and looking down at other people, probably whilst smoking in Paris.

JC

Like a barista.

Miriam

No. I don’t want anything with responsibility and I don’t want to follow the law.

JC

Coffee bars?

Miriam

Probably something like that.

JC

Last question five

Alex

Oh is it done

JC

It’s a short one.

JC

What advice do you have for the fans out there that want to create music?

Miriam

I know what you’d say or what you’d think, because you say it all the time.

Alex

This is Alex’s question. I want to know what he’d say.

Miriam

You always say, ‘you always say to me, “oh they say you can’t do that,” so we do it anyway.’ And they say, “oh you’ll never make it.” It’s one I keep for it.

Alex

Wow! You like it? Yeah. What do I say? I’m just saying, just you find your own music on the instruments. Fuck them rules. Play about until you like the sound and then record it.

Miriam

If they say you can’t do it anyway?

 

Alex

The rules of music are stupid.

Alex

It’s sort of bad, but

JC

Just do it. Mim, what advice do you have for fans out there that want to create music?

Miriam

I think don’t worry about whether you’re going to be good at it or not. Don’t think about what it’s going to be like at the end because I think that’s often stopped me from doing things that I wanted to do. And when I don’t do that and I just do it for the love of it, that’s when I have the best time, and that’s when I make my best performance. When I don’t worry. Fuck it. When I don’t worry about it and just think, ‘This is for me.’

Alex

This isn’t for anyone else. Try and impress yourself to make the records that you wanna hear. Same.

Miriam

Be in the moment with it. Don’t overthink it; just be in the moment if you are going to be on stage and sing how you feel at the time.

JC

One last question that I am going to add in for the sake of including it in the interview is, “Does Le bone have anything exciting coming up?” I’ll answer this. Jason will answer this. Thank you.

Why don’t you answer these questions as well? I am not good company anyway.

JC

We have our second album coming out on the twelfth of September called ‘Pink and Brown’. We have an album release party at a venue in Wolverhampton, UK, place called Dive. Awesome band supporting us called A Pig Called Eggs from Shrewsbury. And we’re looking forward to that. Thank you. That concludes the interview. Goodbye.

Miriam

I think so. I’m really worried about the amount of work I haven’t done on those songs. I think I can get this done. I can get those songs done, can’t I? I can get them done.
