Today, we sat down with Jenna Leigh-Raine to talk about her inspiration to write music, advice for musicians, and much more!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
Great question which I can answer. Sometimes it can be from a film or music video to a song I’m watching or listening to. A photo picture in a magazine can evoke an idea.
I often imagine myself in a visual, like a sci-fi situation or vision of our future where humanity and earth are heading.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Like most, it was what my late mother would play especially in the car.I especially remember anything from Elton John to Diana Ross, ABBA to Barry Manilow – these were her favourites. What I took from these were melodies and how a chord can hit emotions. Though it was Olivia Newton-John who was the very first voice I heard, on a plane ride back to Rio via Miami to London.
But when I thought about taking my own musical journey, I began listening to the likes of The Police and early Tubeway Army material. After, it was Gary Numan and David Sylvian who’s music I’ve been addicted to ever since.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Not a hero but I admire Gary Numan the most – he’s such a unique artist.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Well I have a career as a writer and I was also born psychic later turning into mediumship to passing messages from loved ones who are no longer with us in the physical world. Deaf in body very much live in colour in spirit.
I also have an ability of healing, having pursued this from the mid-eighties with pets. Now I heal humans with serious illnesses.
But music is what I love; producing and pushing myself by creating new sounds and better production value.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Create your own sound and identity. Don’t just do the same genre or style that is current. In this new music industry, that is broken. Nothing is hardly getting heard because of streaming. Do something unique, exciting and different.
