Today we sat down with rock band IVY GOLD to talk music inspiration, music listened to while growing up and heroes. Be sure to check out their music below and jam out to some damn good music!
Here is the interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
Well, of course the normal day to day things influence me a lot. There were times though when I get so much inspiration when I’m traveling. Being at different places and meeting lots of people gives me plenty of stuff to write about.
The creative process varies of course as writing music is not a linear process. Sometimes I have something on my mind and bits and pieces of lyrics just arise. Oftentimes Sebastian comes up with some great guitar riffs and plays it to me. Sometimes there is a melody right in my ear, sometimes not. At times the lyrics are the beginning. So it’s a mixture of it all. After we have some sort of structure we go into the fine tuning of the song. And in the end get the band together to make it sound real good!
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
When I was a young kid – believe it or not – I was a big ELVIS fan! I loved him so much and collected pictures, stories and everywhere in my room I would have ELVIS posters all over the place. In my teenage days I listened to Bob Marley, Depeche Mode and of course Michael Jackson – in fact – I still love Michael Jackson.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
I always admired Michael Jackson and ELVIS… without them Music wouldn’t be the same today! And of course there are so many other great artists out there nowadays such as Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart, Joss Stone… I could go on and on and on…
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Oh I am just so glad that I am a musician and that I can make a contribution to the world with my music. It is truly wonderful to spread good energy, love and peace. That’s what I’m here for and I would not want to do anything else.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just stay true to yourself and your own style. Always express who you really are deep inside of yourself. That’s the main thing and then the hard work that comes along with putting out your own music feels natural, organic and fulfilling! And never give up 🙂
Thanks so much for this interview!! And of course for sharing and supporting Ivy Gold 🙂 we really appreciate it a lot – it means a lot to us!!
All the best to all of you!!
