Today, we sat down with the band Good Hustles to talk music inspiration, advice for musicians and much more! Be sure to check out their music below on Spotify right after the interview!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
A rule of life is that when you can’t talk, you sing, and that when you can’t sing, you dance. None of us can dance, so singing is the next best thing. We love telling stories through music, and dragging the listener along for a few minutes at a time.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
There’s a massive variety of influences between the four of us, we all grew up on a mishmash of rock, blues, metal and 80s pop.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Harv – Chad Smith! His energy behind the kit is insane.
Nath – Chester Bennington. He exposed his pain and showed a generation that it’s ok to not be ok.
Will – I have a load of heroes but I can’t think of one right now. But there are loads!
Mort – Jonny Greenwood for pretending to know how to play keyboard when Radiohead started
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
We’re all working office jobs when we’re off stage, so if we didn’t have music we would likely be fully dead inside and working for banks.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Go for it, don’t be afraid to collaborate with other musicians but be true to the vision you have for what you want to do. Also, be willing to take constructive criticism, regardless of your bruised ego.
