Today, we sat down with Satoshi and Tanya of Ginger May to talk their inspiration to write music, heroes and much more! Be sure to check out their music  below on Spotify after the interview!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

People and situations. We only write songs about true events or feelings. Rather say all of our songs are reactions to events that occur in our lives. We never write about something that we haven’t experienced.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Tbh we listen to all musical genres. We both (Tanya and Satoshi) love classical music. We think it is essential, something everyone who wants to grow up should listen to. Or next favorite is oldies, the music of the 40th, 50th, and 60th, etc. It’s really hard to single out just one genre. In fact, we listen to everything from Tchaikovsky to Rammstein, from RHCP to Jason Derulo.

Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?

How people say: you shall not make an idol for yourself. So as you understand it is pretty hard to name any hero. But there are many musicians we adore and are happy to learn from them. Like Van Halen, James Hetfield, Mylen Farmer , etc.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?

Satoshi: I would be a president (laughing) But maybe a President of an IT company at least.

Tanya: Movie Director

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

Don’t get hung up on one genre and don’t be afraid to experiment. All beauty is born at the crossroads of borders. And try not to waste time on everything superfluous, try to invest more in yourself
