Interview with Fatal Switch

Music is the foundation of our thoughts, ideas, and inspirations of how we perceive our area. This next band has used their own journeys through this reality to create the sounds and words that echo in my speakers at this moment. We were able to sit down with Fatal Switch and pick their brains on their inspiration and sounds of music from their end.

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

I wouldn’t say surroundings play a big part of the creation process. I think art inspires art and that can be anything from a good movie, to paintings, nature (surroundings), books and of course other musicians. Sometimes it’s a small thought that develops into an entire song and other times it’s the concept within the music that we already built that drives the ideas behind our songs. In fact I would say the latter has probably been our biggest inspiration. Drawing off the own art that we have already created, and we take a lot of pride in that.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

That’s a big list! I’ve listened to everything from Pink Floyd to Aerosmith, Nirvana, Green Day, Korn, Eminem, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, RATM, Beastie Boys, Linkin Park A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, etc.. etc… And etc…

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

I wouldn’t say any one individual. Not really. I mean I have a lot of respect for Eminem and Dr Dre for their contributions. As well as 2pac and Biggie for being such trail Blazers. I guess if anyone those would be the guys I admired the most as artists. But then again theirs so many trail blazers that this list could go in forever as well.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

Not sure to be honest. It’s not a thought that I like thinking about. But I guess I would be expressing myself through writing novels, perhaps journalism or acting. Acting was a bit of a missed opportunity for me. It was a path I had firmly stepped on before I let music take over my life. I kind of let that passion fall off the table.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Well, it’s a tough road ahead. Never give up and never think that you have perfected anything…ever! It’s a constant learning experience and sometimes you have to find people or tools to help you along the way. Working with a good producer in my opinion is step one. If you haven’t had a studio experience yet with the right professional then your already behind. Then finding the right team who knows the industry and can help pave paths for you is crucial. Do not think you can do it on your own or that you have the knowledge to do so. Your better off playing the lottery. Last but not least if you are following trends and not doing something out the box by creating something unique then your chances of success are greatly depleted. Theirs so many different acts and so much noise thanks to services like cd baby and distrokid that you really have to aim to cut through or else you will never get heard. That’s about it. That’s all I got for now lol go get ‘em! You can never be successful if you never try! It’s called the music business so get comfortable learning the businesses!
