Today, we sat down with Dope Default to talk about their start in music, type of music they listened to growing up and much more! Be sure to check out their music below after the interview!
Interview:
How did you get your start in music?
We’ve all been playing hard rock and metal music since our teenage years, about the same time we got into heavy music. A couple of us have played in other bands before together, and this is how Dope Default came to be. We started as a studio project in late 2015. After the overwhelmingly positive reception that our debut EP ‘Nuclear Honeymoon’ received, we decided to take the band a step further. We’ve been with our current line-up since the summer of 2018, and we’ve released 2 EPs and 3 albums.
What type of music did you listen to while growing up?
Mostly heavy metal and hard rock. Bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Helloween, Deep Purple and even stuff like Monster Magnet, System of a Down, etc. Basically all the big bands of the 80s and everything that came post-2000, after the heavy metal ‘revival’ of the time.
What are fun stories you can share while you’re in the studio recording music?
We’re very professional when we’re working on album recordings, pre-production etc. Most of the fun stuff happens during rehearsals. And even then we try to keep things as serious as possible. However, we’re keen to consume large quantities of beer! This is the main fuel that drives Dope Default’s machine!
What is your latest song or album you can share with us?
Our latest album is called ‘Division’ and it was released on March 3rd, 2022. We’ve been working on it throughout the pandemic, so we had ample time to write, record and make it as good as possible. We handled production duties, while the mixing and mastering were handled by Thanos Mylonas. The artwork was provided by Polish artist, Kacper Gilka, who perfectly captured the mood of our music.
It’s certainly our best release yet, and we’ll start working on following it up with something equally impressive!
