Today, we sat down with the band Delilah Daybreaks to talk type of music listened to growing up, their heroes, and of course advice for future musicians! Be sure to check out their music on Spotify below after the interview!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

It definitely is my surroundings but it’s also everything going on in
my life, especially when it comes to writing lyrics.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

My dad listened to a lot of 90s hardcore and 80s metal so I grew up
hearing Hatebreed, Metallica, and a lot of Danzig. My mom loved a lot
of the 90’s alternative so Garbage, Weezer, Green Day, and Nirvana. So
that paints a picture of what influenced me when I was growing up.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

I would say a lot of my heroes are just people who inspire me and
motivate me to be a better person. A lot of those people are just the
musicians and stuff who inspired me and made music that helped me when
I was at my lowest, Matt Skiba is probably the biggest one, and I make
a bunch of My Chemical Romance references in my writing and stuff,
because they were a band that absolutely changed my life. Other than
that I don’t necessarily have heroes in the traditional sense, but I
do have a lot of people who I look up to.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I would definitely be a teacher, I’m working on my degree regardless
of the band, but yeah. I would be teaching history at a high school
level or something like that.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Just do it. Try out everything that you want to attempt to do, and
don’t be afraid of possibly failing. Never put money or success above
your values, and always make sure that you or your band is happy with
what you are putting out first before you think of anyone else.
