Today, we sat down with Death In Paradise to talk music inspiration, advice for musicians and much more! Be sure to check out their music below after the interview!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

Indeed, occasionally my surroundings do affect and inspire me to write…. subconsciously, maybe even more than I realize. A lot of the music are based on day to day struggles of just being….hurt, pain, loss… relationships, tragedy…they all play a part.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

The early part of growing up I really didn’t have a choice or preference, it was what I would hear on the radio…like Casey Kasem’s American Top 40…and because I grew up in the Caribbean, Dub music, Calypso and reggae was a staple…it’s only till I entered my early teens…Rock n roll and hard rock completely dominated my taste in the style of music and life.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

As a teen, going to local rock shows in Trinidad in the early days and seeing my predecessors, people like Gary Hector, Robert Beadon and Nigel Rojas…all close friends today, but I looked up to them. Of course, up to this day I still choke up about Slash. (Laughs). Bob Marley is a hero as well. Period.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?

I really am not sure…This is it for me..it’s what I do…but to answer your question and use a bit of imagination, let me think..maybe working with wildlife.. reptiles and such..

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

To believe in yourself, but don’t be arrogant, maintain your humility, there’s always someone bigger and better out there…but knowing who you are and what you feel and want out of it all, may just separate you from the rest. I am not good at giving advice, most of the time I need it myself ( laughs) thanks ☠️
