Today, we sat down with Darkest Horizon to talk inspiration to write music, music listened to while growing up and much more. Be sure to check out their music below after the interview!

here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

Hey, kind of, I (Daniel, Guitar) don´t write our song´s, Chris, our keyboarder writes the
basic core of every song and everyone arranges his instrument around it. So surroundings
is a wide field. In my case I hear the keyboard and orchestral arrangement and build my
guitar to it. As I am convinced, a song should get what it needs. If it needs slow and
dramatic guitars, I do so, if there is fast and tricky stuff I give my best as well. The sound
and the feeling comes always first in line:) But surely the way I see music and what I prefer
comes from musical education, the bands and music I like, so the “surroundings” is a
prominent factor for the outcome of the sound and the music.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

This fits with the first one haha… I started with AC/DC in the age of 12. Later on Metallica
joined the circle of my favourite band´s. Than I quickly started to dig deep in the Metal
music with Bands like Dimmu Borgir, Ensiferum, Norther, Wintersun and so on.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Of course, Angus Young, Jari Mäenpää and maybe Nuno Bettencourt. But to be honest… I
am not that “fan guy” that checks every riff and every lick their heros do. I just enjoy their
music and their style.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I study to become a teacher for children with special needs. So maybe this, without music
there were a chance I could have finished my studies earlier, but my earliest plan was
being a professional Handball (European handball) player. I got signed in my last year
playing for the youth-team – for a team that played German second league. But I stumbled
from one major injury to the next, and the contract busted. So I searched for something I
could do with my time and because i have been playing the guitar ever since I was a
teenager, I quickly found a band and started something new.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Just stick with it, don´t give up and do what you love. Work hard and there will be a way or
an opportunity emerging.
