Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
To be really general, I’d say life. Just everything. Growing up, my perspective of the world and my experiences. I think those things are part of what lead us to enjoy certain music, art, and culture. We relate to things based on our perspective. As artists, we portray messages through
our art based upon how we feel about those messages.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
From an early age I was drawn to bands like The Doors, Black Sabbath, Kiss, and Nirvana. I loved rock and roll the most. In my teen years punk swept me away and then in my early to late twenties it was back to my heavy rock roots. I’d always liked the blues and even jazz, and
my songwriting would have those tones weaved in and out of them.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Paul Stanley. He’s the ultimate rock star. He set the stage for many singers and bandleaders. I’ve always liked the mystique of Jim Morrison, like he knows something I don’t. It’s just cool.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
That’s a funny question because I have never had that thought a day in my life. When I discovered Kiss at age 6 I knew ‘I was
gonna be a big famous rock star’. I never really left room in my life for anything else and I don’t really enjoy working in a typical setting.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Listen, listen, listen. Listen a lot and intently. Once you start writing and playing, don’t stop Ever. For anything. If you want it to be your life, make it your life.
