Interview with Circus Wolves

Today, we sat down with the band Circus Wolves and talk music growing up, advice for musicians and more. Be sure to check out their music on Spotify below after the interview!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

We certainly get inspired by our Manchester roots and the city’s musical heritage. Pre-COVID, Manchester’s live music seen was absolutely booming and still held true to its form as one of the best around when it came to finding new music. Hopefully, this will come back once we’re past the current situation.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

There’s a really eclectic mix between all of us when it comes to growing up. For me (Jim) my house was filled with a lot of Motown and Atlanta classics such as Al Green and Otis Redding. This was pretty amazing because it gave me a great taste into some really different musical styles to what I was experiencing outside of the home.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

David Bowie. Always have been and always will be.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I always saw myself doing some kind of work with my hands. Something like artisan carpentry or a guitar luthier. That’s probably where I would go.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

You can’t go wrong. That’s a really important thing to remember. It’s too easy to compare yourself to other artists and think “I’m getting this wrong, I need to start again”. This couldn’t be further from correct. Own your own style and write what you love. Trying to be someone else will just make you fall out with making your own music.
