Today, we sat down with Michael Fenris (vocals and guitar) and Josh McClure (drums) of Children of Atom to talk of their latest release, inspiration to write music and much more!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Michael Fenris (vocals/guitar) – I’m usually inspired by weed and outer space. Music has always been my way to try and escape from my surroundings, so I dunno, I guess that counts.
Josh McClure(drums): My inspiration comes from a complete compulsion to do so. I have an unrelenting need to play drums.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
MF: Rock and metal, occasionally country and gospel- not by choice. Though, I’m not gonna lie, as a little kid I’d bust it out to Achy Breaky Heart.
JM: I grew up on AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Sabbath and Zeppelin.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
MF: A few through different stages of my life. Hendrix, Dave Mustaine, Josh Homme
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
MF: I’d probably be dead, or a traveling vagrant on a motorcycle. Maybe I’d be doing tattoos.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
MF: Music and art is so commodified anymore. People think they have to make money to justify their art. Just do it for you.
JM: Don’t stop! Persistence is key. Especially persistence in spite of your own self doubt.
