Today, we sat down with Phil and Gatsby from Cathedral in Flames to talk music inspiration, advice and much more! Be sure to check out their music below after the interview!

Here is the interview:

What  is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

Phil:  We grew up and live in ancient Prague full of temples, churches and cathedrals, which certainly influenced us. It’s only logical that we gravitate towards darker side and we started to write gothic rock during the high school.
Gatsby:  Inspiration is everywhere. I am full of music and just my trouble is that I do not have enough time to record it. But I take my isnpiration mainly from books and movies of course besides my beloved bands from 80/90. What type of music did you listen to growing  up?

Gatsby:  Siouxsie adn the Banshees, Joy Division, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Smiths, The Clash, The Damned, The Mission.
Is  there someone you looked up as a hero?
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Phil:  The biggest of the all: heavenly Leonard Cohen.
Gatsby:  Johnny Cash
If  you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Both: Probably drug dealer or philosopher. Or both. As we both have University degree in chemistry and philosophy.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Phil:  Just do it. Borrow, buy or steal the guitar, learn 3 chords and express yourself. It’s all that matters.

Gatsby: Fuck everybody who says  “It ain’t for you, you got no talent…”live your dreams, make the music till you bleed.
