Today we sat down with Bobby MC to talk music inspiration, type of music growing up, and of course advice for future musicians. After the interview, be sure to check out his latest song below!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

My inspiration to write my music is the melodies and sounds that I hear that I want to turn into a song. Lyrically, it usually depends on how I’m feeling at the time of writing. Obviously my first release was a cover which I will be doing 3 more of this year with possibly some original work in 2022.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Quite a range of music really. My parents were professional musicians for 30 years so they passed on a lot of their music on to me. Classic bands such as Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Dire straits and then artists like Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie. I then got into swing and jazz at 17/18 and started listening to Michael Buble, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Yeah I definitely look up to Gregory Porter. He taught me that the music I play can be mainstream, that you can be revered as a singer by having a low warm distinctive tone and to never give up and believe in your talent.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I have a first class honours degree in Actuarial Maths so I’d definitely be doing something in that field.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Don’t put pressure on yourself. When you feel like playing or writing something down, the do it. You’ll find your process in time, there’s no right or wrong way to create music.
