Interview with Betty Harper

Today, we sat down with Betty Harper to talk music inspiration, someone you looked up as hero, and much more! Be sure to check out her music on Spotify below after the interview!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

Whenever I’m feeling down, motivated or I just feel the need to write a song, I instantly pick up a pen. It’s so important for me to write a song whenever I feel the need to because that’s when songs like Blood is Thicker Than Alcohol are produced. The inspiration isn’t necessarily my surroundings, it’s more of a feeling. I know when I need to write a song, and when I do, my full feelings get written on that piece of paper.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

Growing up, I listened to a lot of Justin Bieber, he was the rave back when I was around 9 or 10 years old. Then it became Adele and Ed Sheeran’s kind of music, that’s where I get my inspiration for genuine songs now.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

In the music industry, I would say Ed Sheeran and Adele equally, they are absolutely amazing as people, and musicians. But, my mum has been through an awful lot over these past 6 years yet she still manages to be strong for my brother and I so, outside of the industry, I would have to say my mum too.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I think if I wasn’t a musician, I would currently be training as either a veterinary nurse or a teacher. Both are something I would love to do because I love animals and I love children so they would be my back up plans haha!

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

If you have a strong passion for music and your life revolves around it, do not ever give up trying to achieve your dream. It’s a tough industry but if music drives you then don’t quit trying to get to the place you want to be. Ever. That’s so important to remember.
