Interview with Arctic Dreams

Today, I sit down with Alex Y, Sydius, Gena, and Nenad of Arctic Dreams! We discuss their inspiration to write music, heroes, and much more. Be sure to check out the music of Arctic Dreams below on Spotify after the interview!

Interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?

[ALEX_Y]: “Well in my case, it could be anything: games, movies, books, and all sorts of historical events.”

[SYDIUS]: “ Might be. Anyway it comes from inside, so the way you perceive your surrounding matters ”

[GENA]: “ My inspiration comes from a blend of my surroundings, emotions, and experiences ”

[NENAD]: “A healthy balance of surroundings and everyday activities, with always some room left open for surprises.”

[ROMAN]: “Boredom. Music is fun and I’m trying to make it fun to play and interesting to listen to. Or fun to listen to and interesting to play, not a big deal”

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

[ALEX_Y]: “All kinds of metal”

[SYDIUS]: “ Purposefully researched everything around metal, rock, jazz, pop and classic ”

[GENA]: “Everything from pop to melodic death metal. ”

[NENAD]: “Whatever my parents played from their collection and on the radio. My father was more classical, rock and very early heavy metal driven (Deep Purple, Mike Oldfield, Dire Straits, Iron Maiden, Blackmore’s Night, Bach and Mozart) while my mother was more pop and pop rock oriented (ABBA, Madonna, Lepa Brena, Queen, any top radio hits). Of course I adopted these genres and created my own by digging deeper, finding other bands and musical groups along the way. And then I discovered Slayer haha.”

[ROMAN]: “A list of my favorite bands through life is Korol i Shut -> Rammstein -> Aria -> Nightwish -> Blind Guardian. After Blind Guardian, my taste switched from bands to genres, I started to listen to Power Metal in general. After that, I switched to Metal in general. Today it is music in general. So when somebody asks me about my favorite band I answer Blind Guardian because it is the last band that had the title of Favorite for me.”

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

[ALEX_Y]: “Yeah, on a lot of famous metal musicians.”

[SYDIUS]: “ Unfortunately. I’m a sucker for glamorous bright narcissistic personas. Sometimes overestimate people and get deluded ”

[GENA]: “ Hero is a very vague term… ”

[NENAD]: “Probably my dad. He was the only one that believed in me and helped me with this musical journey the most.”

[ROMAN]: “-”

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

[ALEX_Y]: “I would be an information technology engineer. I am an engineer. I mean, I’d be even more immersed in that field.”

[SYDIUS]: “ A dancer ”

[GENA]: “ Sommelier ”

[NENAD]: “Voice-over actor for cartoons and lobster documentaries.”

[ROMAN]: “I’m a programmer”

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?

[ALEX_Y]: “Don’t give up. I have changed many jobs in my life and have seven professions. But none of them is even close to being a musician. Because you have SO MUCH to do. ”

[SYDIUS]: “ Make more complete cycles. Do the real thing more and practice less. Recording one album, promoting it and arranging a tour with a band will give you more than years locked with a metronome”

[GENA]: “ Start with What Inspires You, learn the Basics, practice and Play Regularly ”

[NENAD]: “There is no try. Do, or do not.”

[ROMAN]: “Perfectionism is the enemy of result. Procrastination is the enemy of performance”
