What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

I’m often inspired by people and stories, but mainly by the emotions that are hidden within them. Little Dreamer, my latest single, is pulling from specific memories that I have, but it’s more about that feeling of nostalgia and care for your childhood self, than it is about those specific instances.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Lots of Jazz and rock. Only in my teens did I start listening to the more indie or alternative artists that have influenced my writing style, but I think my vocal tone definitely has roots in the jazz that I grew up listening to a lot of.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
I don’t think it’s necessarily healthy to look at people as heroes; everyone is human and shouldn’t be held to that kind of standard. Granted, I’m heavily inspired by women in the industry that have managed to maintain their personality and creative freedom while achieving success in the industry. People like Feist and Dodie (two drastically different people) are certainly inspiring for me.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Working in video games! I am a professional sound designer, so I would still be lending my skills to making cool games.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just do it. Nothing will ever be “perfect”, but if it sounds like you want it to and you’re proud of what you’ve done, get it out there
