INSERT COIN a documentary by Joshua Tsui is the story of one of gaming’s biggest powerhouse Midway. Any gaming fan from retro to present-day knows Midway. As a huge retro gaming fan growing up in the ’80s and 90’s I lived through this era. We hear the story from legends of the gaming industry on how they came up with now-legendary titles from Smash Tv to Mortal Kombat.

Midway was always willing to take the next step and innovate gaming with games like Nba Jam and T2. Using real-life actors was a huge game-changer and lead to making fighting games faster in gameplay. Three companies started with one buying the all-out only to have Midway having the most long-lasting success. How a Midway game got turned into a movie by a now big-time movie director.

As a fan of gaming, this documentary brought back so many memories of playing at the arcade at the mall as a kid. Living in that era seeing the new Midway arcade cabs and getting to play them was an unreal feeling. To be the first kid in my 5th-grade class to have Mortal Kombat at home. Turned my house into the place to be invited to game it up.

This is a must-see for any gaming fan just to hear the stories of these gaming gods. Just to take a stroll down memory lane of one youth and their first time playing these Midway classics. For the younger gamer check it out to learn where all these games come from and who created them.
