EGA celebrates thirty years of stardom with New York Times bestselling authors Gale Galligan and the McElroy brothers, who join the IDW All Star team

March 18, 2021 – IDW Publishing (OTCQX: IDWM) and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announce the arrival of a special comic book celebrating 30 years of Sonic the Hedgehog ™, the video game sensation that has become an icon of popular culture. Right in time for its 30th tour of the sun in June, IDW will release Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special, a special 80-page comic book made up of three stories full of colorful heroes and formidable villains that will touch fans of all ages right in the heart! This major publication will usher in a promising new decade from the writers of New York Times bestselling authors Gale Galligan and the McElroy brothers, determined to give the energetic mascot a new boost.

“Seasons of Chaos” is the first of three stories of this 30th Anniversary Special. It is imagined by Flynn, Hammerstrom and Graham: Sonic travels through the seasons in search of the Chaos Emeralds alongside his lifelong friends Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel.
“Sonic has been essential in my creative career for 15 years,” says Flynn. “I had the pleasure of writing the adventures of this little blue hedgehog on different media, which allowed me to meet many artists and authors who helped me evolve as a professional (in addition to make beautiful). Sonic and I have been going a long way now, and I hope this will continue for a long time to come! ”
The dreaded Dr. Eggman is central to the second story, with the surprising and poignant “Dr. Eggman’s Birthday ”by Galligan and Rothlisberger… because we should not forget that the infamous doctor, always enemy of Sonic, is also very closely concerned by this great event!
“When we were little, with my sister, we borrowed the cartoon Sonic the Hedgehog from the local video store, and we watched it about a billion times,” says Galligan. “I remember that we kept quoting, with her, all the dialogues by heart! Sonic has held a very special place in my heart ever since. I’m happy to be able to contribute to her 30th anniversary, and can’t wait to send a copy of this 30th Anniversary Special to my sister! ”
Finally, the third story promises to be full of action and humor: in “Sonic Learns to Drive”, by brothers McElroy and Fonseca, Sonic faces a rather unusual tough challenge! While the fastest living being on the planet can effortlessly overtake any vehicle, will he have the patience to learn to chomp behind a wheel… or will he stay for once? on the side of the road ?
This Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special will be available with different covers to the delight of fans, including one created by the Sonic Team, another by Christina-Antoinette Neofotistou and two others reserved for specific dealers designed respectively by Patrick Spaziante and Tyson Hesse.
The most ardent fans will turn to the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Celebration: The Deluxe Edition , a prestigious hardcover version with special bonuses for $ 19.99. Scheduled for October 5th, this Deluxe Edition will offer an additional story by Gale Galligan, a cover gallery, a “From Script to Comic” bonus and much more!
But that’s not all ! To celebrate Sonic’s 30th birthday , IDW will also be releasing Sonic The Hedgehog: The IDW Collection, Vol. 1, on June 22 for $ 59.99.
