Houston Gaming Expo 2023 Review

This is Todd Hoefler with Drop the Spotlight, and I attended the Houston Gaming Expo in Houston, TX this past weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This was a small two-day expo, and it was a lot of fun and also a great experience! The guests that were there were Justin Wong, Vicious, Kizzie Kay, Jeremy Lopez, Bonnie Gordon, and more! Here is my review.

When I stepped into the Houston Gaming Expo on Saturday it was after the first half of the tournaments were over but even with a light crowd it was still great to see another gaming expo within the City of Houston just a few months after Texas Showdown. Sunday is when it really picked up though it’s when all the tournament finals were being held and had some great panels. The artist area was great as well.

The Pro of this convention is that it is another video game convention, and competition in Houston besides Texas Showdown. The hosts of the event were awesome, and the show was very well put together. The Cons of the convention though was it being scheduled only four months after Texas Showdown and needed more video game related vendors there as well (ex. Game Over Video Games, Player One Video Games or any other retro game stores there).

In my honest opinion this is exactly what the Houston Area, and the Houston FGC really needs is another video game expo/competition besides Texas Showdown. I would love to see more support for this convention next year, and for many years to come. Please don’t let this be just the kind of thing that’s just going to be one and done.
