Honeypot “Shut Your Mouth”  is a Hard-Rock Anti-Valentine’s Punch

Charleston, SC indie rock band Honeypot is back with the final single release before their vinyl LP release next month. “Shut Your Mouth” is an anti-Valentine’s punch with the same prog-rock vibes and scathing lyrics that define Honeypot’s music, this time with a more hard-rock angle as well.

Frontman Frank Hartman explains, The subject matter is satirical, as per usual – a satirical view on couple dynamics. In this story, the woman is the antagonist. It addresses long-term couple dynamics where someone seeks solace in substance abuse. As one person shrinks, the other looms larger to fill the void. But with a funny backdrop. Recording it was straight forward. I hit the opening lick a couple of times, we doubled it up for surround sound. I took a little more time with the lead section and went for a pretty melody over the song’s intensity. It’s a Yin-Yang dynamic to make the subject matter more palatable.”

Hartman, a lifelong student of classic rock bands and progressive rock icons like RUSH, Tool, and Alice in Chains, adds a uniquely Southern-rock twang into the music of Honeypot. The South Carolina native is a practicing lawyer by day and guitarist/drummer/songwriter by night. His fans, whom he affectionately calls Honeypotheads, are music nerds, gearheads, comic book- and film-buffs. Honeypot’s previous singles, “Fake News”, “Over the Line” and “On the B Side” were mostly political, anti-Trump protest songs. The full album (also titled On the B Side) comes out March 19, 2021 on vinyl and digital. Fans can pre-order the album here.
