Brooklyn, NY – March 5, 2019 – FilmRise announces “MODERN HERO: THE TELEVISION SERIES” to begin airing March 6th on the Ovation Network this March in celebration of Women’s History Month.  The newly created television series from FilmRise and Ready Set Productions is a long form brand extension of the groundbreaking award-winning short form digital docu-series “MODERN HERO” which has generated over 100 million views on social media and has been honored with notable awards including Cynopsis’ Short Form Video Awards for Best Documentary Series and Single Entry and five Telly Awards.  Episodes and descriptions of the remarkable women featured in the television series are listed below.

 

MODERN HERO: THE TELEVISION SERIES”, co-created and hosted by journalist Julia Fisher Farbman with co-creator Cindy Connors, celebrates female role models of all ages, races and careers.  The fascinating inspiring women featured in the series are educators, businesswomen, non-profit leaders, media personalities, athletes and more from around the world – all who tell their stories of overcoming unbelievable odds to prevail.  The television series builds upon the incredible success of the digital online series and expands the driving mission to new audiences in order to inspire young girls and women to dream big with positive messages of hope and empowerment.

 

Episode One

Dr. Audrey Evans is a world-renowned Oncologist whose career has spanned more than 60 years. As co-founder of Ronald McDonald House Charities, her work has impacted the lives of millions around the world. Now at 93-years-old, this Modern Hero says she “still has the ability to do something for the benefit of humanity.”

 

17-year-old baseball sensation, Mo’ne Davis became a sports icon when she was just 13 as the first girl to ever pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history. Now she’s using her stardom to inspire other young girls to dream big and not let gender norms hold them back from success.

 

Episode Two

Kat Cole, one of the most influential business leaders in the country, went from Hooters hostess to Group President of a multibillion-dollar brand portfolio. As a new mom, this powerhouse gets candid about marriage, motherhood, and the importance of giving back.

 

Dr. Arabia Mollette went from living on the streets to becoming an ER doctor. She has faced unspeakable pain, including the murder of her infant son and teenage sister, but through tragedy, she found faith and purpose.

 

Episode Three

Patrice Banks is an engineer turned entrepreneur, who’s shattering gender stereotypes as the Founder and CEO of Girls Auto Clinic, the nation’s first all-female auto mechanic shop with an attached beauty bar!

 

Michelle Poler is a native of Caracas, Venezuela who realized her crippling anxiety and fear stopped her from living life to the fullest. Instead of retreating, she ran towards her fears – ALL 100 in 100 days! Not only did she become a braver person, but she inspired millions to do the same.

 

Episode Four

When Lauren Scruggs Kennedy exited the plane in December 2011, she had no idea that not only would she be fighting for her life, but through tragedy, she would find her purpose. Since that day, she started a foundation that provides prosthesis and support to those in need, and a blog that highlights the beauty beyond the pain.

 

Amy Wright was inspired by her two children with Down Syndrome to start a movement through her coffee shop franchise, Bitty & Beau’s. Bitty and Beau’s Coffee is run by individuals with intellectual and developmental disorders, chipping away at the 80% unemployment rate, one cup of coffee at a time.

 

Episode Five

Sister Mary Scullion was named by TIME Magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” for her relentless dedication to eradicating homelessness. Her journey to serve those in need began at just 19-years-old when she joined the convent, and she’s lived a life of service ever since. Now her organization, Project HOME, has saved thousands of people from living on the streets and is recognized as a model for ending homelessness nationwide.

 

World-renowned public artist Meg Saligman created installations honoring the likes of Pope Francis and Martin Luther King Junior. Meg is determined to use art to bring communities together and start meaningful conversations.

 

Episode Six

Lauren Lake is a lawyer, professional singer, interior designer and the judge on the Emmy award-winning series, Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court. Lauren’s mission is to live limitlessly and to empower women everywhere to do the same.

 

Kristina Saffran and Liana Rosenman both battled eating disorders and joined forces to stamp out the mental illness for good. When they were only 15-years-old the pair launched Project HEAL, a non-profit that’s since become the largest in the U.S. for delivering prevention, treatment financing, and recovery support for people suffering from eating disorders.
