Loic J Tuckey’s latest creative ventures reflect a genuine and deep connection to the American West, channelling its spirit through both his music and writing. His debut album, Beyond The Sun Road, is a sonic journey through the golden age of American road trips, infused with elements of Americana, alternative rock, blues, folk, and ambient lounge jazz. The album’s 12 tracks feature a rich tapestry of influences, from mid-20th century rock and R&B to surf, swampy blues, and psychedelia, brought to life with a twangy guitar and his versatile voice that is reminiscent of traditional blues, with clean, gentle, and gruff undertones.
Tuckey’s process for creating, Beyond The Sun Road, was an immersive experience both authentic and soul-enriching. The album was partially written on the highways of America, with lyrics scribbled on diner napkins and melodies recorded on his phone in various motel rooms. This organic approach captures the essence of the great American road trip, translating fleeting moments and vivid scenes into musical snapshots. The titular track epitomizes this journey, with persistent driving drums and gritty guitar lines symbolizing the endless road. The lyrics reflect Tuckey’s real-life experiences, encapsulating the visual and conversational fragments that linger in the mind long after the journey ends.
The album was recorded in Sheffield’s Hatch studio with the collaboration of local musicians like Jim Ghedi and Zebedee Budworth and was ultimately mastered at Candyland Studios in Kentucky by Mike Montgomery, ensuring a polished and cohesive final product.
Parallel to his musical journey, Tuckey has also submerged himself in writing of another form, into writing, penning his debut novella, Cowboy Butchers. This work draws inspiration from classic Italian westerns and, intriguingly, the Lincolnshire banger. Tuckey’s rich experience in the Sheffield music scene, spanning over 15 years, not only informs his diverse musical style but also enriches his storytelling, merging various cultural and artistic influences into his creative output.
Fusing elements of Americana, indie-folk, swampy blues, singer-songwriter, and alternative soundscapes, Beyond The Sun Road, is an innovative and impactful debut album.

About Loic J Tuckey
Loaded with his customised Mexican Fender Telecaster, Loic J Tuckey spends his days creating music of many styles and genres to best complement his morning mood. Taking inspiration from Italian film scores, Tarantino soundtracks and traditional blues, Cuban and exotica grooves, Loic claims to have no idea what he and his guitar will get up to in any given studio session. In the past, Loic has played and toured extensively with post-punk band Wooderson and Math Rock duo Che Ga Zebra. These days you’ll find Loic playing blues and American-influenced music alone in bars and venues or rocking with his band.
