Due to Popular Demand, The Metropolitan Opera’s Production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess Receives Encore Screenings on February 15 in Select U.S. Cinemas

  • WHAT: With record-high presales—and Saturday’s live transmission grossing nearly $2M at the domestic box office—encore screenings of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess are now scheduled for February 15, in addition to the planned encores on February 5 and 8. With sold-out auditoriums and rave reviews, cinema audiences are getting another chance to see one of America’s favorite operas on the big screen.

James Robinson’s new production transports audiences to Catfish Row on the Charleston waterfront with vibrant choreography by Tony Award–nominee Camille A. Brown. Bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue star in the title roles. The cast also features soprano Golda Schultz as Clara, soprano Latonia Moore as Serena, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves as Maria, tenor Frederick Ballentine as Sportin’ Life, bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Crown, and bass-baritone Donovan Singletary as Jake. David Robertson conducts.

Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award–winner Audra McDonald, who won her fifth Tony Award for her portrayal of Bess in the 2012 Broadway revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, hosts the transmission.
