DTS Gaming Crew Connects with Short Hop Games

A couple weeks ago we (the Drop the Spotlight Gaming Crew) spent an evening with “Quests and Cannons” tabletop game designer Eric Geller from Short Hop Games for a friendly game on Tabletop Simulator (TTS). For the non-initiated, TTS is an open sandbox application that allows you to play your favorite tabletop games straight from your PC!

I met Eric on Quest’s and Cannon’s Facebook page, and when I was invited to play test I honestly didn’t know what to expect as this was my first play test with the actual game designer playing with us. This has always been a dream of mine, so needless to say I was pretty excited to help him out by play testing his game. For those who may not know what this means, it means that the game is still fiddling with rules, interactions, numbers, etc. to try and build a well-balanced yet fun game.

I reviewed the game the night before and played with DTS Gaming Crew members so we’d have a decent grasp on the rules in anticipation for the play test. The following day we ended up playing a 2v2 game (myself and Eric were on one team). Once the game got going things got intense and it ended in a stunning upset! I won’t spoil it for you as you can watch the videos of our play test session down below.

A formal review is in the works, but for now take a look behind the scenes at this casual play test of Quests and Cannons. Here you can listen to Eric answer some questions about his thought process on game design for those interested in these sorts of things and other friendly gaming banter.
