Despite being one of the most-streamed Mexican artists in the world, I really had never gotten around to checking out Xavi. I’ve really gotten into corridos over the past few years, having seen artists like Peso Pluma and Fuerza Regida live. I knew Xavi wasn’t a name to keep sleeping on, with him playing the Freeman Coliseum last year, a massive feat. With his sophomore album, DOSIS, he gave me the perfect introduction to his natural storytelling, a strong foundation in corridos, and the talent to switch between genres.

Xavi opens the album with strong vocals on “Si Fuera Por Mi,” “Neptuno,” and “DOSIS.” His lyrics explore the process of letting go of someone close while still hoping it will work out, highlighting his strength as a storyteller in this genre.

I loved the full instrumentation on “Bellaka.” The horns and guitars blasting throughout the track add incredible energy, making the song more powerful. The instrumentation also adds variety in his collaborations with other artists and the genres they bring to the table. Carín León brings his norteño style to “La Morrita,” followed by “No Capea” with Grupo Frontera. “En Privado” with Manuel Turizo introduces bachata, while “San Charly” mixes reggaeton, rapid flows, and merengue-like trumpets, showcasing Xavi’s natural movement between genres.

The final track on the album caught me off guard in the best way possible, with “Find Us Again” being sung entirely in English. It’s a perfect connection to his Mexican-American heritage, and his vocals here are among the strongest on the record, making for a truly personal and memorable conclusion.

I was impressed by how well Xavi fits into the genre with his singing and storytelling, and by his exploration of other Latin genres. For DOSIS, being my first real deep dive into Xavi’s music, he’s already setting up to be one of my go-to artists for corridos.
