COUNT Graphic Novel Review

Robots! Hover ships! Revenge! Now this is a story to read to see what is going on! COUNT is loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo story but I can’t see that vision. I see a vision of what the author and the artists showcase while you are taken to a new world of corruption with a sci fi twist! COUNT is a story that will rev up your imagination through various glass stained ideals that you put your mind into a sunny delight. The story, the art, and the sci fi elements are just astounding! I felt like I was in a different world while reading this novel which gave my thought sci fi should have been. I have created a review below of the graphic novel but I’m not going to reveal much. Get a copy of this graphic novel and check it out!

You will dig it !

Here is the review:

Pro:

  • Story:
    • The story starts off as Redxan is a commoner that rises to the height of captain for his own ship. He is in love with this beautiful rich woman and they wed in secret. The woman’s cousin is quite jealous and so is the former captain to the ship and together they conspire to get rid of Redxan. Redxan was sent to prison and had to fight for survival while the woman’s cousin, Onaxis inherits the world and his cousin Meris as his new bride. Redxan learns how to fight and befriend a man in the prison as well. The man helps
  • Sci Fi Elements
    • I am a huge sci-fi fan and the author doesn’t disappoint! The first few pages have our hero saving the day by climbing back into a hover ship that is already in flight. I also enjoyed how they involved robots and kept calling them “the past” or “extinct”. This gave me a distinction of how we would normally imagine the future with robots but this was more into the future where robots were not really an important aspect in human lives. When I was reading this story, I felt this is beyond the sci-fi imagination we normally are shown. The author and artist gave us a glimpse of a sci fi future that would give our imagination that fire that it needs to continue to dream for the future.
  • Step Up Art
    • I enjoyed how the art in the graphic novel was showcased which gave the reader a visual epiphany of imagery throughout the novel! One page I would recall a piece of a space ship looking 3D while highlighting the magnitude of that scene. Then the next image would showcase an exhausted Redxan climbing back into the ship. The amount of detail the artist does to the characters is just astounding! The artist deserves a standing ovation as my imagination was captivated by their creativity!
