Saint Malo, France, June 12, 2021 — French studio Elseware Experience is happy to share more content on its upcoming game Broken Pieces.

ABOUT THE GAME

When Elise and her fiancé decided to leave the urban life and settle near the French coast, she could not imagine that she would end up stuck in a time loop, alone.

While strange phenomena occur in a dark post-Cold War climate, Elise will have to investigate to unravel the mysteries surrounding the region of Saint-Exil, its ritualistic cult and its lighthouse overlooking the coast.

Broken Pieces is an action-packed investigative and adventure video game set in France. The game immerses players in the shoes of Elise, a woman in her thirties living in the village of Saint-Exil located in an imaginary region reminiscent of Brittany. Following an unexplained paranormal phenomenon, Elise is stuck, alone, in a time loop that inevitably forces her to relive the same day over and over. Your investigation begins here…

STORY BACKGROUND
The action takes place in the early 1990s in French Brittany.

“Several years ago a never-before-recorded sound from the depths of the abyss is picked up by seismographs around the world. Amidst the cold war and political tensions, the world’s powers accuse each other of experimenting with new military technologies in secret.

December 1991, Elise and her friend Pierre flee city life to settle in a coastal village called Saint Exil. But a year after their relocation, during a simple annual celebration in the village square, an armed military force uses the element of surprise and force to kidnap a large part of the inhabitants gathered in the same place. Elise escapes and runs home, taking refuge in her house. Breathless and terrified, she faints hidden in the attic.
When she wakes up, she realizes that she is now stuck, alone, within the same day that repeats itself over and over again. ”

Elseware Experience is a 2 person development studio that began its history around the creation of mods on the Source Engine from Valve Software. Afterwho of them were released to considerable public appreciation, (multiple thousands of downloads from all platforms); the studio is moving towards the creation of projects on a larger scale.

The studio is composed of Benoit Dereau, art director and level architect who worked for instance on dishonored; and Mael Vignaux, phd in physic, technical director and award winning sound designer.

Thanks to the mixture of their technical know-how and knowledge of game engines, the team met an international success in terms of architectural visualization in real time and then initially focuses on the realization of a large number of these. The studio then embarked on the creation of serious games in virtual reality for educational purposes with the objective of educating citizens about ecological problems (the preservation of bees or issues around pollution). These works were the fruit of a collaboration with the European Union and are showcased in many museums around the world.

With this wide array of experiences behind them, the team, now set in the heart of the Emerald Coast, has devoted themselves to the creation of their first title as an independent game developer: Broken Pieces.
