Bowling Shoes formed to create alternative pop music distant from the emotionally driven genre its members had previously found success in. With a mission to create upbeat music, their early songs such as ‘Portland’ received love from Gen Z through TikTok, earning the band millions of streams and over one hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify. Following 3 single releases in 2021 from their upcoming EP ‘DoomScroller’, the full 7-track EP is slated for release on August 13th. For this new release, Bowling Shoes are combining moods of swaying indie-pop beats and nostalgic city angst to create their most authentic sound yet. Featuring some unheard gems from the band such as the lustrous ‘See U Again’ and bouncing ‘Silly’, the EP finishes with ‘TalkSoon’, a gleaming modern synth-rock track that encapsulates Bowling Shoes’ unique style.

Bowling Shoes on the inspiration behind the EP:

“Literally doom scrolling on social media, reading terrible news online ALL THE TIME, reflection on American Jewish identity and cell phone anxiety. Additionally, there is stuff in there about missing close friends deeply due to tough times. The EP hyper analyzes many relationships: romantic, platonic and explores some deep-rooted intergenerational stuff, mostly informed by and seen through the lens of cell phones and the internet.”

Using a vast array of analogue synths and virtual instruments alongside guitar and bass, Bowling Shoes worked with drummer Sean Thomas on the EP. Working on the EP since the very start of the pandemic, the band worked thoroughly and cohesively through constant file sharing and logic/pro tools sessions passed over through the cloud before finally getting the sound they wanted and sending the sessions to Ben Lumsdaine, who mixed the EP, which was later mastered by Joe Laporta at Sterling Sound.

Bowling Shoes was born out of a culmination of lead singer Jeremiah Bermel’s high school art and music experiences, which pushed him to create more personal music. Teaching himself to record music as he attended Massachusetts College Of Art & Design, it became a full band as he picked up more and more members. Bowling Shoes is more than just a band, it’s a community that thrives off of collaboration and generosity.
