BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston Uprising announced today the signing of Korean damage player Sang-beom “Munchkin” Byun, a free agent who most recently played for the Seoul Dynasty. Munchkin’s signing is currently pending league approval.

Munchkin, 21, most recently participated in both the 2018 and 2019 OWL seasons with the Seoul Dynasty, helping them reach the semifinals in Stage 1 and the quarterfinals in Stage 3 in 2019. He first competed professionally as a member of Rhinos Gaming Titan through several APEX events in 2016 and 2017. Munchkin reached the semifinals of European Overwatch Contenders 2017 Season Zero as a member of Laser Kittenz. In October 2017, he played as a temporary stand-in for Lunatic Hai, helping the team win the Seoul Cup – OGN Super Match. The majority of players on that winning team would go on to form the Seoul Dynasty.

Munchkin is a main damage player, with proficiency on hitscan heroes like Tracer, McCree and Widowmaker.

“Munchkin has a long and successful history in competitive Overwatch,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “We think his maturity and experience will be valuable to the Uprising in 2020, and we’re excited to have him on the team.”

The Uprising look ahead to the 2020 OWL season, as they will return to Boston and host two homestand weekends on April 25-26 and June 27-28.
