FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Boston Uprising announced today the signing of flex damage player Byeong-ju “Valentine” Kim and main support Hong-gyu “Faith” Kim. Both are South Korean players who helped Overwatch Contenders team World Game Star Phoenix become Contenders 2020 Season 2 champions in the Korean region.

Valentine, who will turn 18 on Valentine’s Day, played for various Korean and Pacific Contenders teams before joining WGS Phoenix in the summer of 2019. Most recently, he has shown a high level of proficiency with Overwatch’s newest hero, Echo, a factor that helped WGS Phoenix find success in 2020. Aside from Echo, Valentine sports a wide hero pool including Hanzo, Doomfist, Genji and others.

Faith, 19, primarily played in the Pacific and Chinese regions of Overwatch Contenders before joining WGS Phoenix in August 2020. During his time with the team, he played a variety of main support heroes including Mercy, Lucio and Brigitte.

Valentine and Faith join hitscan player Jin-ui “im37” Hong and Seunghyun “Lori” Kim as WGS Phoenix alumni now on the Boston Uprising, maintaining the working relationships the four formed in 2020.

“We’re excited to bring Valentine and Faith to the Uprising and to reunite several members of WGS Phoenix,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “These two additions finalize our roster for the time being, and we look forward to competing in the upcoming season.”

The 2021 Overwatch League season will begin in April.
