BOSTON UPRISING ANNOUNCES 2019 FALL COLLEGIATE CUP PRELIMINARY STAGE PARTICIPANTS

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. –  The Boston Uprising announced today the participants in the preliminary stage of the Fall Collegiate Cup, which will occur online on November 16.

The Boston Uprising Collegiate Cup field features 15 teams from 11 local New England schools:

  • Becker College
  • Boston University
  • Champlain College
  • Dean College
  • Emerson College
  • New England College
  • Northern Essex Community College
  • Southern New Hampshire University
  • Johnson & Wales University (two teams)
  • University of Massachusetts Amherst (two teams)
  • Northeastern University (three teams)

11 teams will play in the preliminary stage. As previous semifinalists, Emerson College, Boston University, one team from University of Massachusetts Amherst and one from Northeastern University will all receive byes into the quarterfinal bracket occurring online on November 23-24.

The preliminary stage will utilize a four-round Swiss system, with each matchup being a best of three maps. The first round will take place November 16 at 2:00 PM, with the 11 participating teams being reseeded and playing new opponents after each round. One team will receive a bye in each round. The top four teams at the end of the stage will advance to the quarterfinals in a single-elimination bracket alongside the four teams receiving byes.

The preliminary stage will be streamed live on the Boston Uprising’s Twitch channel (twitch.tv/bostonuprising) beginning at 2:00 PM on November 16, with a variety of teams being showcased as time allows. The semifinals will begin at 2:00 PM on November 23. The third-place runoff match and finals will begin at 2:00 PM on November 24. All matches featuring the top eight teams will be streamed to the Boston Uprising’s Twitch channel.

The winning team will earn $5,000 for its collegiate esports program. This Collegiate Cup is the third such event hosted by the Uprising. Northeastern won both previous tournaments in December 2018 and April 2019.

The Uprising look ahead to the 2020 OWL season, as they will return to Boston and host two homestand weekends on April 25-26 and June 27-28.
