Bombfest
By Juan M Carrillo
Bombfest is a unique game, Developed by Sudden Event Studios and Published by Whitethorn Digital Bombfest is sure to make you question your sanity in a good way. Winning to rewards in both 2016 and 2017 is hard to argue why. Bombfest is very charming and has a simple appeal forming a causal game. Though I can’t honestly say why this game is very drawing it certainly had me smiling as I played it. Not much thought is needed to play Bombfest and instead it focusses more on having fun which is the core of any game. In fact, I would more classify Bombfest more of a party game than a casual game.
Bombfest charm comes from the wooden dolls you get to choose and unlock through playing. They remind me of early childhood toys simple but very fun. With very little characteristics to each doll they come to life with the unique costume that they are wearing. The world itself takes place in various places in a house, which leads me to believe that the whole game is taking placing inside a child’s imagination during playtime. The game play is very simplistic using various types of bombs to knock each other out of bounce, and it doesn’t require much skill to do so but it is satisfying and frustrating when your win or lose. However, that is the game in a nutshell with very straight forward game play one can probably play a few games before moving on. It did hold my interest for a while but around 30 minutes of playing I was ready to move on to something else.
Overall Bombfest is a pretty solid game being what it is. It’s a fast pacing casual game that one can play when they sometime to kill. Its charm comes from the way Bombfest is presented reminding one of early childhood play time making worlds appear inside on imagination, which is done very well with the art choices made by the developers. With the game being so simple the developers have a very strong foundation to improve on what Bombfest could be, and it worth keeping an eye on them.
