Balan Wonderworld Demo Impression

So in July, when Square Enix announced a new game by Sonic the Hedgehog creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, I was ecstatic. Along with the classic character designs that evoke Nights into Dreams! The breathtaking music that ties everything together. Well, I just finished playing the demo I must say I was really impressed and I can’t wait to play the full game. Balan Wonderworld’s demo sees you through parts of three of the full game’s twelve chapters, along with ten of the more than eighty costumes that will be available. These costumes truly represent the unique hook of this game, with each costume having its own quirky unique power that adds a gameplay twist. However, one of the more memorable moments in the game was the Isle of Tims, home of the cute, cuddly Tims, which offered a delightful diversion between levels much like the Chao Garden from the Sonic Adventure games. And I have to say, I found myself as distracted by the desire to perfect my Tims and their playground-esque tower as I did with the adorable Chaos.

The great thing about Balan’s Wonderworld is how it seems to gear itself towards family-friendly gameplay, both in its presentation and its simplicity. While it is evident that some puzzle-solving might be a little tricky for younger children, however, most are not required for the progression of the game. Additionally, thanks to the local co-op option, I believe that Balan Wonderworld would be great for teaming up with either a friend or a younger sibling for some colorful quality time. I do hope that a bit of pizazz and variety are tossed in for the full release of the game, as the demo seemed to lack a bit of luster compared to the over-the-top opening cinematic. However, as the full game will feature significantly more chapters and costumes, I can easily see this turning into a completionist’s dream.

If you want to try out the demo for yourself, the demo will be available to play from January 28, It can be played with friends and family in local co-op mode or in single-player mode and will be available on each platform that the full game will be released on. This means you will be able to play it on Steam for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. So I encourage you to download and play it and be ready to be transported to a beautiful colorful world with wacky and fun gameplay with friends and family.
