Today, the comics publisher launched the crowdfunding campaign for their latest anthology. What started as a quarantine activity to pass the time, quickly grew into a project about hope, looking forward, and giving back.

“The idea was originally presented to us as a contest,” Jordaan Arledge – president and editor-in-chief of Arledge comics – recalls. “A project – really, any project – to keep our attention from the terrors 2020 presented us with.” Arledge goes on to say, “As the idea developed, we just knew this book was going to be more than just a distraction. It was an opportunity. Not only to give back, but an opportunity to come together as a community. 2020 didn’t beat us. We’re still here, still creating.”

What’s Left? will be on Indiegogo until March 20, 2021. Proceeds from the campaign are being donated to charity after creating a micro grant for creators impacted by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“Funds absolutely needed to go to charity.” Arledge explains. “What’s Left? was created in – and centers around – a time where too many people were hurting. At the same time, our editorial team acknowledged that charity can only go so far. No matter what organization benefitted, someone would be missing out.”

Taking a two-prong approach, Arledge Comics is donating half of all proceeds of the title to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute. From their website: “The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) protects and defends the human rights of BLACK transgender people. We do this by organizing, advocating, creating an intentional community to heal, developing transformative leadership, and promoting our collective power.”

Remaining funds will be allocated to creators via a micro-grant. “By the time we’re able to have this volume in our hands, it will have been a year since Emerald City Comic Con 2020 was cancelled.” Arledge recalls the cancelled event that lead to many, many more. “Conventions are the livelihood of so many, and we wanted to ensure that this money got directly into the hands of creators.”

What’s Left? will be on Indiegogo from 2/15 – 3/20/2021. You can support the project here: https://igg.me/at/whats-left/x/24146457#/
