Antstream Arcade Xbox Series S Review

Retro is back baby! I do enjoy going to my local retro shop to find games for my classic systems that I own at home. What if there is a way to play many of those retro games on my next generation console? I might be crazy for thinking that but a company came out and succeed with my wildest dreams. Antstream Arcade is the world’s largest collection of officially licensed retro video games that play on various devices including now XBOX! Yes you heard it, I can play over 1300 retro games on my Xbox Series S and bring my mind back to simpler times.

We were able to get a review code for Antstream Arcade for our Xbox console. I was able to redeem the  game using my Xbox Series S with a quick download to the console. The game went pretty well on our console with a few hiccups due to my internet connection. I do have 600GBs speed with my internet provider, but at times I felt it lagging in the beginning of each game. The game does utilize streaming technology for cloud based gaming, so I did have a few hiccups. If my internet speed was a bit better, I would feel this would make this unstoppable due to so many games you can play on your next gen console. Other than that, I played games I haven’t played in YEARS! Original Mortal Kombat, Splatter House, Star Wars, and Earth Worm Jim were played heavily on my Xbox Series S before venturing to trying other games as well.

Our thoughts

Pro:

  • Classic Games on Next Gen Console
    • Who doesn’t use emulators? WE all used them at one point to play our classic games on our computers in order to make sure our classic games and console that we OWN continue to last longer. Antstream Arcade provide us a way to play classic games on our latest consoles. I played Splatter House on my Xbox Series S and couldn’t believe it! I felt like a kid again to play this game again!
  • Retro Graphics Looking Good
    • Who doesn’t like a classic graphics on your 4K television? I did and it looked hella good! While cycling through various games, I was able to view the graphics in each game with greater respect. They hold up to today’s standards and beyond with the beyond imagination their creators once did for them.

Con:

  • Lagging in the beginning
    • When I would start a different game on arcade, graphics would load to a lagging aspect for a few seconds. I would see this for a bit in each game but afterwards it would run smooth. I know this shouldn’t be a con or gripe, but I did see this on multiple games.

Rating: 8 out of 10
