New York, NY (January 23, 2020)— One of America’s favorite operas, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess comes to the big screen on February 1 as part of The Met: Live in HD series. James Robinson‘s new production transports audiences to Catfish Row on the Charleston waterfront with vibrant choreography by Tony Award–nominee Camille A. Brown. Bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue star in the title roles. The cast also features soprano Golda Schultz as Clara, soprano Latonia Moore as Serena, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves as Maria, tenor Frederick Ballentine as Sportin’ Life, bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Crown, and bass-baritone Donovan Singletary as Jake. David Robertson conducts.

Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award–winner Audra McDonald, who won her fifth Tony Award for her portrayal of Bess in the 2012 Broadway revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, hosts this live transmission.
